The Squaws took second place at the Edgewood tournament last week with Ashley Meyers and Jessica Eisenhauer earning All-Tournament honors.

Jourdanton fell to Jefferson in the championship match, but flourished throughout the tourney.

“We were able to keep up with Jefferson’s pace for the majority of the match,” Jourdanton head coach Tabitha Fogle said.

“We were running our offense just as much as they were and we did a great job of communicating and playing with our hearts.”

The Squaws earned valuable playing experience in the tourney, Fogle said.

“We were able to get a lot of playing time at the tournament and I feel we really used it to our advantage,” she said.

First, Jourdanton beat San Antonio Kennedy (25-18, 25-12) as Kaitlin Hindes and Makenzie Griffin both added 10 kills in the win.

Other Squaws to contribute were: Ashely Myers 9 kills, 2 aces; Sarah Daughtry 11 assists; Eisenhauer 11 digs; Amber Bailey, Kendall Brashear and Michelle Carrasco 2 aces each; Kelsey Ripple 1 block.

Later in the day, the Squaws swept San Antonio Burbank (25-17, 25-10).

Squaws to contribute were: Myers 3 kills, 7 assists, 3 aces, 4 digs; Griffin 3 kills, 1 block; Brashear 3 kills; Daughtry 4 digs; Allison Matocha and Hindes 2 aces each; Ripple 1 block.

Jourdanton wrapped up its first day of the tourney with a victory over Eagle Pass in three sets (25-16, 27-29, 25-15).

Myers led the Squaws with 8 kills, 13 assists and 4 aces while Griffin added 8 kills in the win.

Eisenhauer contributed 9 digs while Ripple finished with 5 aces and 1 block.

Jourdanton dropped its first two matches the following day with losses to Memorial (24-26, 23-25) and Jefferson (13-25, 19-25).

Griffin led the Squaws against Memorial with 5 kills while Hindes finished with 3 kills and 3 aces in the loss.

Other Jourdanton players to contribute were: Myers 5 assists, 2 aces and Eisenhauer 9 digs.

Against Jefferson, Brashear led with 6 kills and 1 ace while Griffin added 6 kills in the defeat.

Myers had 6 assists while Eisenhauer finished with 11 digs.

On the final day, Jourdanton defeated Memorial in two sets (25-16, 25-15).

Myers led with 5 kills and 10 assists while Brashear added 5 kills in the win.

Other Squaws to contribute were: Bailey 7 digs; Daughtry 1 ace and Griffin 1 block.

Jourdanton beat Lytle in two sets, but stats were not available for the match.

The Squaws then lost to Jefferson in the title match in two sets (22-25, 17-25).

Griffin led with 5 kills and 2 blocks while Myers had 3 kills and 5 assists.

Eisenhauer finished with 18 digs and Brashear had 10 digs.

Jourdanton will hit the road and travel to Devine for the Arabian tournament this week.

Then, the Squaws remain on the road as they face St. Anthony Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.

Squaws fall to Floresville

The Squaws fell to Floresville on the road last week in straight sets (15- 25, 16-25, 14-25).

“We made a lot of errors against Floresville and we weren’t mentally ready to take the floor,” Fogle said.

“We worked out some rotations and I had a better idea of who worked best with whom on the court.”

Griffin led with 7 kills while Myers added 10 assists and 1 block in the loss.

Other Squaws to contribute were: Eisenhauer 7 digs; Shelys Miranda, Carrasco and Bailey 1 ace each.
