Squaws move into 2nd place with road win at Karnes City

Jourdanton to host district-leading Poth on Friday

The Jourdanton volleyball team picked up a big win Monday against Karnes City.

The victory, a 25-12, 25-21, 25-23 sweep at the Lady Badgers’ gym, moved the Squaws into second place in District 26-3A with another key match on Friday.

Jourdanton (19-11, 7-2 district) will host district-leading Poth, one of two teams to top the Squaws in 26-3A play.

Savannah Bronstad and Destiny Powell led the offensive attack against Karnes City, which beat Jourdanton on Sept. 22.

The senior Bronstad had 13 kills, and Powell added 12.

The two were set up by Laney Korus and Jenna Kuykendall, who had 22 and 10 assists, respectively on Monday.

Defensively, junior Erin Soward had a team-high five blocks. Powell also had four blocks.

Kameryn Guzman led Jourdanton with 17 digs. Karen Carrasco and Bronstad were right behind with 15 digs apiece.

The victory Monday marked the fourth in a row for the Squaws.

Jourdanton also beat Natalia and San Antonio Cole last week.

On Oct. 3, the Squaws topped Natalia 25-18, 25-17, 25-9 at home. The win completed the season sweep for Jourdanton.

The Squaws then hit the road Friday for a match against Cole.

Jourdanton bounced back from an opening-set loss to come away with a 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-23 over the Lady Cougars.

The Squaws have three district matches remaining before closing out with George West before the postseason.

After the Poth match Friday, Jourdanton will take on SA Fox Tech and SA Brooks.
