Makenzie Griffin powerfully spikes a ball for Jourdanton in a win over San Antonio Cole last week. The Squaws open their District 30-4A schedule this week against Crystal City Friday.

The Squaws lost to Marion in four sets (25-20, 15-25, 13-25, 22-25) last week on the road.

“We let our great energy from the first set get too low in the second and third sets and started making silly errors,” Jourdanton head coach Tabitha Fogle said.

“The fourth set, we were point-forpoint with them until the very end and made mistakes we shouldn’t have made. It was a great match for us all in all. Marion is very competitive, so we were able to really test our defense. We also made some adjustments throughout the match with our staff and were able to see who was working better together on the court.”

Jourdanton opens District 30-4A action Friday at home against Crystal City at 5:30 p.m.

Then, the Squaws face county foe Pleasanton Tuesday on the road at 6 p.m.

“We are ready for district to start,” Fogle said.

Earlier in the week, the Squaws defeated San Antonio Cole (25-12, 20-25, 25-13, 25-16) on the road.

“We had a great start to the match then hit a slump in the second set,” Fogle said.

“We rallied back in the next two sets to beat them and finish strong.”
