Katlyn Polasek, a 2020 Jourdanton High School graduate, is this year’s recipient of the SPJST District Merit Scholarship Award, the Miles Marek Scholarship and the Jourdanton Lodge 202 Scholarship. Polasek was also awarded the Presidential Volunteer Silver Award for her community service.

SPJST is a fraternal benefit society founded in 1897 by Czech immigrants who brought their families to America seeking a better life. SPJST lodges, scattered across Texas, originally provided the immigrants with opportunities to learn about their new country and democracy, learn English and provided a sense of community.

Today, SPJST offers life insurance, promotes community involvement and supports a robust youth program. Youth members have opportunities to learn leadership skills, participate in community service projects, attend camp, and compete in public speaking, artistic, and individual and group talent competitions to earn scholarships. Lodge 202, Jourdanton is a close knit group that supports many community groups/projects. Guests are always welcome to attend meetings and participate in activities.
