Members of the South Texas Art Guild recently met for a demonstration on a potter’s wheel.

South Texas Art Guild members held their April meeting at the home of their newest member, Laurel Starry Thomas. She has an art studio near her home on Pulliam Drive, nestled under her wonderful huge Live Oak trees.

She showed members many beautiful examples of objects created from clay, using various techniques. Some were handshaped, some thrown on a wheel, some glazed, some incised.

She demonstrated using a potter’s wheel and gave each member clay to work with. She demonstrated the process of prepping and working with it.

Most chose to create hand-shaped objects, which Laurel will fire later. Members will continue to work on them and apply a finish later.

Member Sam Lingo took pictures and posted them on Facebook to document the event. Other members attending were Kailyn Carr, Raemee Powell, Faith Sage, Frances Schneider and Darla Pesek.

In addition to working with clay, Laurel paints at her easel with oils and acrylics.

STAG meets the second Tuesday of every month. For more information, call 830-480-6478.
