The most anticipated weekend of the year for football fans everywhere is upon us, and families all over are planning the biggest and best Super Bowl party they have ever thrown. However, while tens of millions of people are enjoying the warmth of their homes, friendships and the satisfaction of hot meals and cold beverages fill their bellies, countless others will be feeling the cold air against their flesh and the ringing of starvation in their bellies. What can you do to help? The answer is in one question: What would Jesus do?
Join Atascosa – Christian Assistance Ministries (A-CAM) in the fight to end hunger and poverty right here in Atascosa County by participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring on Sunday, Feb. 2.
Souper Bowl of Caring is the result of thousands of youth coming together to end hunger and poverty in their own communities. This unique, youth-led movement of caring has transformed the nation’s biggest football weekend into its largest weekend of giving. Since the program started in 1990, over $80 million have been raised for local charities in the country. As in years past, local Christian congregations are urged to support their youth in this national drive to supplement the efforts of our local food pantries, and A-CAM is just one of them. Churches in Atascosa County have been faithful to support A-CAM through local Souper Bowl of Caring activities such as monetary collections during their services or canned-food drives.
This year, A-CAM is inviting all local churches, organizations, businesses and families to participate in Souper Bowl of Caring through monetary, clothing or pantry donations.
“When there is a specific need in our community, we do our best to fill that need, and you can help,” said Dan Minnich, Execu- tive Director of A-CAM. “Whatever you can donate is going right back into our community to those in need.”
A-CAM is asking for everyone to join the fight by donating anything you can to their cause. All local congregations and all youth organizations are urged to participate in this mission effort as well as anyone who feels a calling to help.
All proceeds, offerings, donations, collections should be earmarked “A-CAM” and mailed to ACAM, P.O. Box 1466, Poteet, TX, 78065, or delivered to A-CAM at 500 Ave. H in Poteet. Every single penny or item donated through the Souper Bowl projects goes directly to the desired charity. There are no administrative costs involved at all.
