Sen. Flores Offers Amendment to Property Tax Bill

Bill and Amendment both pass with 18 ayes

AUSTIN – Monday, Senator Peter P. Flores offered a floor amendment during the debate on Senate Bill 2, the Texas Property Tax Reform and Relief Act of 2019. The amendment helps counties cover the unpredictable cost of indigent criminal defense.

“I offered an amendment to Senate Bill 2 to balance costs of indigent criminal defense for our counties, especially small and rural counties––many of which make up Senate District 19,” said Sen. Flores. “This amendment takes into account unexpected costs that accompany longer trials, allowing counties to recuperate financially with an adjusted tax rate the following year. I’m glad I could provide tax reform for our constituents and other rural Texans in a meaningful way.”
