New to our staff at the Atascosa Health Center in Pleasanton is Rajlakshmi or as we call her, “Dr. Mona”. Dr. Mona comes to us from Delhi, India and completed her medical school at GSVM Medical College in Kanpur, India before coming to San Antonio to do her residency at University Hospital. Dr. Mona received several Gold Medal honors in Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and a Certificate of Honor for obtaining the highest marks in Oto-Rhino- Laryngology at CSM University while in school. Dr. Mona arrived at the Atascosa Health Clinic in Pleasanton in October.
She is married and has a 3-year-old daughter named Sanya. She is a very active sportsperson and other interests include fitness, cooking and travel.
Dr. Mona stated her husband is also a doctor currently completing his fellowship in Florida on July 2015 and will return to the Pleasanton/ Jourdanton area as a surgeon. They both love our community, small friendly town and want to stay. Dr. Mona also has family in San Antonio and came from a big family of two brothers and four sisters.
Dr. Mona is an Internal Medicine Doctor. So what does an internal medicine doctor do exactly? An internal medicine doctor will complete three of their seven or more years in medical school and post graduate training dedicating time specifically to learning how to prevent, diagnose, treat and provide compassionate care of adults with chronic diseases. Examples could be adult patients who have hypertension (high blood pressure), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, hyperkalemia, diabetes, etc. She will also provide services for women’s health (i.e. Pap test).
