Mrs. Sara Darby of Jourdanton passed away Saturday, October 5 in San Antonio at the age of 97. Sara was born in Devine in 1922 to James Walker McAllister and Letha Slater McAllister.
She was married to the love of her life for 69 years, Marshall Darby, until his passing in 2010. Together, they had Darby Grocery for many years in Jourdanton.
Sara is survived by her son, Marshall Darby and wife Dorsey; daughter, Janet Rayes; brothers, George McAllister, Walter McAllister (Alda Rose), and Franklin McAllister; sister, Linda Anderson; grandchildren Darin Darby (Dana), Michelle Bowen (Blake), Jeff Darby (Vanessa), Dianna Daniels (Tommy), Mindy Travis (Jeff), Josh Darby (Paige), Melissa McClure (Cody) and Sheila Black (Eric), 17 greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Letha McAllister; husband, Marshall Darby; brothers, Clifton McAllister and Bill McAllister; sister, Dorothy Ward; and son-in-law, Jimmy Rayes.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 9 from 4-8 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 10, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Jourdanton. Burial will follow at the Jourdanton City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the United Methodist Church of Jourdanton.
