Santa’s coming to the Brush Country; lighted parade is this Saturday

To encourage shoppers to do so locally this Christmas season, the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce along with merchants are sponsoring A Brush Country Christmas. The event will take place this Saturday, December 1 in downtown Pleasanton.

Music will start at the downtown area at 3:30 and children and pets will line up at the Pleasanton Elementary School to get ready for the parade at 3:45 p.m. The children’s bicycle and a pet parade will start at 4:00 p.m. Christmas decorations will adorn the bikes vying for two top prizes – brand new boy and girl bikes sponsored by Security Federal Service Credit Union, Eric and Ginnie Otto. Also, H-EBuddy will be mingling as well.

Dress up your favorite animal for the pet parade. It will follow the bike parade. Pet owners are asked to bring a pet food product to donate to a local animal shelter. Brenda’s Doggie Do’s will sponsor prizes for the pet parade.

Following the parade Santa Claus will make his entrance. He will be visiting with children and photo opportunities are available. The Pleasanton Cowboy Homecoming Queen Kianne Rowinsky and Princesses Jessica Herschap, Emalee Rice, Lexie Roane, Danielle Santos and Duchess Kylie Yapp will assist Santa.

Canned foods are requested in exchange for the photo. Walgreen’s is providing the photos and they may be picked up on Sunday, December 2.

Christmas music, provided by Lone Star DJ, will be from 3:30-6:00 p.m. A brief ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Pleasanton with Mayor Clint Powell reading the Brush Country Christmas proclamation. The tree lighting of the huge oak will follow.

You can register to win $500 in gift certificates from the chamber as well as in-store certificates or items from participating mer- chants.

Drawings will begin at 5:00 p.m. and you do not have to be present to win. For more information, please see the ad on page 14C.

LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE

Don’t miss the “Lighted Christmas Parade” in Pleasanton. The date has been set for Saturday, December 1.

Sponsored by the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Posse, organizers welcome everyone to participate in the parade. So, string up the lights to your horses, floats/vehicles and join in.

Trophies will be awarded to the entry with: The Most Decorated Horse/Rider and Most Decorated Float//Vehicle.

If you can’t participate, come and see the horses and lights!

Participants will gather at Pleasanton at the Atascosa River Park. This will also be the area where the parade ends.

Judging of entries begins at 6 p.m. The Lighted Christmas Parade kicks off at 6:30 p.m.

Following the parade, organizers will serve hot chocolate and cookies!

SANTA COMES TO JOURDANTON ON MONDAY

Santa Claus will arrive in Jourdanton on Monday, December 3. The Jourdanton Fire Department will be transporting Santa on the fire truck to the Jourdanton Community Center. He will arrive at 6:30 p.m.

Children will be given a number as they arrive at the Community Center and will see Santa when their number is called. This way the children and parents don’t have to stand in line. There will be activities to keep the children busy until it is their turn to see Santa.

Food and drinks will be sold in the Community Center. Hamburgers will be freshly prepared and sold outside the Community Center under the awning on Elm St. side. A delicious bake sale will take place inside.

Santa will visit with the children in the library. When the child’s number is called he or she can go into the library. They will visit with Santa. Free pictures compliments of Walgreens will be taken. Parents will be responsible for making arrangements to pick up the photos at Walgreens. After visiting with Santa the children can return to the community center. There is no charge to visit with Santa and to have a photo taken. You may bring your own camera as well.

Come out and bring the children to see Santa Claus and enjoy an evening out in the community.

CHRISTMAS IN CHARLOTTE

Next Saturday, December 8th lots of fun is planned in Charlotte. It starts with a night parade at 6 p.m. The Christmas Festival will be held at the Davenport Park in Charlotte with food booths and activities for the children.

Stay for the dance, which begins at 7 p.m. featuring Texas Heat, Cold River Band and Camino Real.
