“My retirement date of November 30, 2018 will mean that I will have served five years as County Treasurer and nine years and fifteen days as County Auditor in Atascosa County,” said Ray Samson.

Samson continued, “In my tenure for public office, I have ran and lost, ran and won, ran unopposed, and been appointed. Quite a story.

“It’s been a good thing for me to work for the county. I’ve enjoyed it. As I am 72 years old and in good health, it’s time to retire. I plan to continue to work privately preparing tax returns.

“I ran for County Judge in 2002 and lost to Judge Bautista, a popular and well known person who did a great job for the county.”

Samson ran for the unexpired term of County Treasurer in the summer and early fall of 2004. In November, 2004, he won the election for County Treasurer.

Because it was for an unexpired term he assumed the office as soon as votes were canvassed on November 15, 2004 .

Samson ran again, unopposed, in the next election, and started his own four-year term as County Treasurer.

On November 15, 2009, Samson was appointed County Auditor by Judge Donna Rayes and Judge Stella Saxon.
