The season is approaching when severe weather is approaching, which means consumers need to take advantage of the sales tax holiday for emergency supplies April 27 to 29.
There is no limit to the number of qualifying items people can purchase. That includes household batters, fuel containers and flashlights priced less than $75; hurricane shutters and emergency ladders priced at less than $300; and portable generators priced at less than $3,000.
Delivery, shipping, handling and transportation charges are considered part of the sales price when determining taxability. If the emergency preparation supply that is bought is taxable, delivery is also taxable. Hence the total price of that item counts toward whether the item is eligible.
Items that are not eligible include auto batteries, camping stoves, camping supplies, chainsaws, plywood, extension ladders, stepladders and tents.
