McMullen County boys and girls win district meet
McMullen County Cross Country took care of business at their district meet on Oct. 14, winning district for the boys and girls side.
On the girls side, all six of McMullen County’s runners finished in the top nine out of 23 total runners. The Cowgirls finished with 25 points to claim their spot at the top of the district 32-A. Junior Sianna Serrata led the way and was the overall winner with a time of 13:18. Her teammate, Senior Makenzie Sherrer, followed closely as she finished third with a time of 13:35. Finishing in sixth through ninth place was freshman Cassidy Slavinski, junior Shelby Slavinski, freshman Memphis Swaim and freshman Kinlee Mills.
The Cowboys also found success, finishing with 27 team points to win district by a wide margin. Senior Isaiah Billingsley finished first overall with a time of 15:47. Billingsley, who won state a year ago, finished over a minute ahead of the next finisher. Freshman Brandon Timms was the next McMullen County runner, finishing in third with a time of 17:55. Freshman Nate Little clocked in at 19:23 to finish sixth. The Cowboys took five out of the top nine spots in a total of 26 runners.
McMullen County will compete at the regional meet in Corpus Christi on Oct. 25.
