A man stopped for not wearing his seat belt found himself in handcuffs after he was found with methamphetamines.

Pleasanton Police Officer David Gardner witnessed the driver of a truck wearing no seat belt near the intersection at Adams Street and Ormond Street. The driver, identified as Christopher Buentello Cruz, 30, of Campbellton, also did not have a valid driver’s license. Officer Gardner began to pat down the suspect, when he took off running discarding clothes as he was escaping.

He was allegedly grasping a plastic bag containing numerous little plastic bags before stumbling and falling to the ground in an empty lot on Main Street. Officer Gardner recognized the crystallike substance as methaphetamine and arrested Cruz.

The suspect was within 1,000 feet of a Pleasanton Elementary School and was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance PG1, 4 grams or more, but less than 200 grams within a 1,000 feet of a school and evading arrest.


Methamphetamine in small packets were confiscated from the suspect.
