Ronnie Tijerina


Ronnie Joe Tijerina, age 48, of Pleasanton, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 in San Antonio. He was a dedicated husband, father, son and brother. Ronnie graduated from Charlotte High School in 1986. Ronnie enjoyed fishing, hunting, barbequing and the Dallas Cowboys. He had a passion for cars, jokes, playing the guitar and singing. Ronnie was known for his generosity and kindness.

He entered the reserves in 1986 and went active duty in 1988. Ronnie served in the Army for twenty four years. He served in Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Operation Panther Shield in Korea, Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia, and Iraq War. Ronnie was also a Bronze Star recipient and retired as a Sergeant First Class in 2009.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Calvillo) Tijerina; daughters, Caylee and Alyssa Tijerina; mother, Dela McHazlett and stepfather, Daniel, and brothers, Jesse Tijerina and husband James MacPhail and Justin McHazlett.  Ronnie is also survived by his grandmother, Marta Benavides; nephew, Patrick McHazlett; uncles, Raul and Jaime Tijerina; the Calvillo family and many aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pedro Tijerina; uncle, Danny Balderas, and grandparents, Margarito Benavides, and Miguel and Herminia Tijerina.

Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, Pleasanton, from 2 – 9 p.m., with a prayer service being held at 7 p.m., Thursday, December 1.  Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, 173 Yule Avenue, Charlotte, at 10 a.m. Friday, December 2.  Interment will follow in Chilipitin Cemetery, CR 315W, Charlotte.
