ROBERT C. HURLEY, JR.

Robert Charles Hurley, Jr., passed away on September 10, 2021. He was the only child born to Robert Charles, Sr. (R. C.) and Lorene (Burns) in Poteet on December 21, 1938.

After graduating from Charlotte High School in 1957, he married Lois (Brauchle) Hurley. They had a daughter, Robin in 1961. He was a deputy sheriff for Atascosa County in Jourdanton from 1962-1968. They moved to Del Rio in 1968 and he worked from the Texas Department of Public Safety. In 1972 he married Rosie (Gonzalez) Phillips and they had a son, Roy, and a daughter, Rebecca. He later served as chief Jailer for Val Verde County.

In 1982, he married Linda (Leslie) Hurley and they owned “The Hill,” until moving to Charlotte full time in 1990. Robert enjoyed ranching, but decided to go back to civil service in 1997 by becoming a dispatcher for the Pleasanton Police Department. He retired from there in 2007 and continued ranching by helping others with theirs as well as his own. He loved tending to his longhorns.

Robert’s beloved wife Linda preceded him in death in 2020 and his stepson Nolberto Frausto III in 2021.

He is survived by his children, Robin and husband Doyle Trees, Roy Hurley, Rebecca and husband John Pendergrass; grandchildren, Kelly Hurley, April Hurley, Elizabeth Pendergrass, Hunter Hurley, John Reed Pendergrass and Taylor Hurley; and two great-granddaughters, Temprance and Sawyer.

He led a full life and had several memorable careers. We’ll see your smiling eyes again someday, Daddy.

A visitation for Robert will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Hurley Funeral Home, from 4-8 p.m.
