RICHARD TREVIÑO


 

 

Richard Gonzales Treviño, Jr., of Jourdanton, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, at the age of 61. He was born on March 9, 1960, to Ricardo Treviño and Angelita Gonzales Treviño in Pleasanton.

Richard graduated from Jourdanton High School in 1978, and then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Texas San Antonio.

For much of his early career he worked as a welder. During this time, he met his soon-to-be wife Dianne Ramos. They married on Dec. 31, 1983, in Jourdanton. Together they raised three children Roxanne, Rick and Cindy.

In 1998, Richard chose to follow a new career in education in which he became a history teacher and a coach. His career was 24 years long with stints at Charlotte ISD, Poteet ISD, Eagle Pass Winn and Jourdanton ISD. He had a very successful coaching career with many playoff teams in all sports he coached and became a well-respected member of the coaching community. He was a very loving father that enjoyed sports, hunting and fishing. He was also a tremendous athlete and as a pitcher in baseball, he was known to have one of the best curveballs ever seen.

Richard was preceded in death by parents Ricardo Treviño and Angelita Gonzales Treviño.

He is survived by wife Dianne Treviño, son Richard C. Treviño III, daughter-inlaw Liz, daughter Roxanne Alaniz, daughter Cindy Alaniz, grandchildren Devin, Kaylee, Ryker, Nautica, AJ, Danielle, Autumn, Ashley, Amaya, Adrian, Gabby, Kai, and Ariana, and great grandchildren Riley, Rosyln, Nicholas, and Vincent. He is also survived by sister Betty Cisneros, her husband Louis Cisneros, brother Jimmy Treviño, his wife Beatrice Treviño and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Coach Richard Treviño will be as follows: Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 28 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Poteet from 4-9 p.m. along with the rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held the next day, Jan. 29 at 10 a.m. at the St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church as well. Funeral services will be followed by a funeral procession to Gonzales Cemetery in Christine.
