Mr. Reyes G. Campos was called to his eternal rest on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in San Antonio. He was a lifelong resident of Charlotte. Big Rey or Reyo, as he was affectionately called, was born in San Diego, on May 19, 1955 to Guadalupe and Carolina Campos. Reyo was well known for his story telling and cooking skills, two very sought-after attributes he displayed while on his hunting or fishing trips with his buddies or during family gatherings. Big Rey never met a stranger. He easily appealed to new acquaintances with his cheery disposition and friendly smile.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Carolina Campos of Charlotte; his daughter, Jessica Flores and his grandsons, Nathan Flores, Ethan Flores and Jared Reyes all of Pleasanton; his siblings, Jose Luis Campos, Sr of Jourdanton, Ruben Campos, Sr and his wife Adelaida of Charlotte, Yolanda McDowell and husband Wayne of Richmond, Glenda Barrera and husband Emilio of Laredo and Guadalupe Campos, Jr and wife Sylvia of Jourdanton.
He is also survived by his nephews, Michael (Twila) Garza, Jose Luis (Sonia) Campos, Jr, Gabriel (Sylvia) Campos, Mario (Christina) Campos, Ruben (Kami) Campos, Jr, Matthew Barrera, Stefan Campos and Adam (Lyndie) McDowell; his nieces, Yvonne (Rudy) Gonzales, Falena Nikki (Adrian) De La Cruz, Tessa (Zach) Robinson, Lyssa Campos, Christina (Steven) Martinez and Andrea McDowell and numerous relatives and friends. Reyes was preceded in death by his father, Guadalupe Campos.
Visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home, Pleasanton from 2 – 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., Friday, December 2, 2016. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Charlotte at 10 a.m. Services concluded at the church.
Serving as pallbearers are Joe Campos Jr, Gabriel Campos, Michael Garza, Mario Campos, Ruben Campos Jr, Matthew Barrera, Adam McDowell, and Stefan Campos. Honorary pallbearers are Rudy Gonzales, Adrian De La Cruz, Steven Martinez, Zach Robinson, Jordan OLeary, Ethan Flores, Nathan Flores and Jared Reyes.
