R.B. Watson

R.B. Watson age 87, formerly of Leming, passed away quietly at home on August 1, 2016 of natural causes.  

Born October 12, 1928 in Placido, Texas as Robert Benoni Watson, he moved to the Pleasanton area with his family as a child.  He graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1946 and worked on several area farms before joining the Coast Guard in 1948.  After serving in the military for 21 years, he retired in Aransas Pass, Texas with his wife Betty and their four children.  R.B. was proud of his hometown and always shared stories of growing up in the area with family and friends.

Following his retirement, he worked installing freezer units in shrimp boats and then owned an A/C and refrigeration repair business.  In 1978 he was elected to the Aransas Pass City Council and continued serving the city for the next 21 years in various capacities including Mayor Pro Tem, Mayor, and Municipal Judge.  He also served on several community committees and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Aransas Pass, involved in the boy scouts and little league baseball, a lifelong freemason and a past Master of Aransas Lodge #1018 AF&AM Masonic Lodge in Aransas Pass.

Bob is survived by his wife Annie E. Watson, children Roger Watson and wife DelRhea (Humble), Susan Adams and husband Mike (Tyler), Pamela Watson (Live Oak), Philip Watson and wife Janette (Goliad), 10 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on August 20 at the First United Methodist Church in Aransas Pass.  Another service will be held at a later date for the interment of his ashes at the Tumlinson Cemetery Association.  An announcement will be posted in the Pleasanton Express when the arrangements are finalized.
