Some 593 residents of the population of Pleasanton 10,557, elected former mayor Clinton J. Powell as the new mayor of Pleasanton with a win of 364 votes. Britni Van Curan, who received 229 votes, has served as Councilmember Place 6 since May, 2018 when she ran unopposed. The swearing in of Clinton J. Powell as mayor will be May 20 at the Pleasanton City Hall.
Jeanne B. Israel who ran for Pleasanton City Council District 6 received 108 votes against Jennifer Garcia who received 94 votes. Israel ran against Travis Hall for mayor in 2018. Before that she had served on the Pleasanton City from 2009-2015. Unopposed candidates for Pleasanton City Council included Lillian Cashmer, District 5 and incumbent, J.R. Gallegos, District 6.
In Poteet, Denise Sanchez won the mayoral race against incumbent Mayor Willie Leal with 227 votes against his 110. The population of Poteet as of 2019 is 3,437. Nicholas Sanchez who was a city council board member and mayoral candidate received 61 votes while Robert Enriguez received 12. The swearing in of Denise Sanchez as Mayor and new city council members will be held in Poteet, Tuesday, May 11.
For Poteet City Council, Place 4, Jeremy Fernandez received 247 votes to Melinda Orta’s 152. Crystal Bautista received 282 votes for Poteet City Council, Place 5 against Jesse M. Leal, 121.
For Pleasanton ISD, District 3, Patrick Hurley, Jr. was elected with 185 votes against Ernest Gonzales, Jr.’s 23 votes and Paul Bernal’s 17 votes. Jessica Tom garnered 141 votes to win PISD District 6 over incumbent Felipe Garza who received eight votes. Unopposed candidates included Blasa F. Chapa, District 1 and Loren Gillespie, District 4. The swearing in of new candidates will be at the Pleasanton ISD board meeting May 11.
