The City of Poteet welcomed the new trucking company, 5F, to the city when they cut the ribbon at the grand opening ceremony on the morning of July 8.

The new trucking company will be located on Loop 282 right off of Hwy 16. With most of the facilities located up north, this new facility will be the most southern location.

“We started with about 300 hundred trucks and now we have about over a thousand,” Regional Manager Trevor Aberle said. “We want to involve the community. This is a wonderful centralized place for our business and we were very fortunate to find a facility that had everything we needed.”

Wayne Brookshire, Manager of Driver/Owner Relations, started out the ceremony informing the public about the purpose of the company. Brookshire said that 5F runs its business in servicing the oilfield workers with sand hauling, but is looking to possibly expand into other industries in the future. Over the duration of four months, the company has successfully recruited many workers and is continuing to grow.

“Really what our company is about is putting more money in the pockets of the American worker.” Brookshire said. “The reason why we’ve been successful is because we want to make worker’s lives better and we’re always transparent. We’re super excited to be here.”

Poteet Council Members were in attendance as well as Mayor Denise Sanchez, who assisted in the cutting of the ribbon. After the cutting of the ribbon, Sanchez stated that it’s important for the City of Poteet to work together and use its Chamber of Commerce.

“With COVID, we haven’t been able to do as much,” Sanchez said to the crowd. “We need to work with the Chamber of Commerce in Poteet. We need to stay together. The City of Poteet needs to work together. This is what it’s about.”

5F started out as a tech company, but due to the shortage of drivers, they started a trucking branch. Brookshire said they are essentially trying to change the dynamic of their market, similar to what Uber did for rideshare services. During the pandemic, there was a nationwide shortage of drivers and the oil and gas companies were heavily affected. 5F is utilizing automated dispatch and AI to limit human interaction and increase efficiency.

“We’re trying to treat [the drivers] like partners,” Brookshire said. “With our platform, we only take off for the trailer rental so our drivers are making about 5% more over the course of a year from other companies. Our biggest obstacle was getting people to believe it.”
