Poteet Teachers Appreciated

It’s that time of year when some teachers may be feeling overwhelmed with testing and end of year chores. This being Teacher Appreciation Week, I would like to share a few things I know about Poteet ISD which illustrate that the hard work of our support staff, teachers, administration, and school board is leading our students in the right direction.

To include: Texas Education Agency Rating for Poteet ISD Met Standard ( Same as neighboring schools, Pleasanton & Jourdanton); 2013: PHS receives Shell Gold Ribbon for advancements in math and science; 2015 Poteet High School awarded Gold Stars for scores in English and Science; Full day Pre-Kindergarten Program; and Dual Language Program beginning at the primary level.

At the high school level, students have the choice of various programs of study including: Ag Mechanics, Auto-tech, Cosmetology (new facilities), Culinary Arts, Early Childhood, Health Science, Technology (including a green room), Welding, and Vet Assistant. Several of these include certifications earned while still in high school or after sitting for the state exam such as Pharmacy Tech, Vet Assistant, Cosmetology and others. 2016-Student receives summer internship with NASA; ROTC student to Washington DC; Thirty dual credit hours free of charge to students who qualify; College and Career focus k-12 with district wide College & Career Day and Career Center at the high school.

2015-16 Poteet students advance: Playoffs: Volleyball, football, boys’ basketball; Regionals: Cross Country, Track, Golf, Weight Lifting, Tennis (Boys District Champs); Advance to state: Track, Auto Tech, FFA Teams (earn 3rd); Poteet Aggie Band: Division 1 rating, State qualifiers; and Culinary Arts state qualifier.

This year, Poteet students held four blood drives, participated in Pennies for Patients, ran a food bank, assisted with clean-up efforts in Wimberly, and will soon be off to help clean Texas beaches.

This is only the tip of the iceberg! There are many great things happening at Poteet ISD. I encourage you to reach out and let your school employees know that you appreciate their hard work and dedication by sending a note, email, or making a phone call.

Thank you,

Proud to be a Poteet Aggie
