POTEET– The Poteet Police Department was contacted by Poteet High School officials regarding allegations of an improper relationship between a teacher and a student May 28.
The case was referred by school authorities to the Poteet ISD Superintendent Andres Castillo.
“It is our district’s policy to not discuss personnel matters,” Castillo said in an email to the Pleasanton Express.
“However, I will clarify that the allegations made were against a substitute and not a teacher. I will not be discussing this matter any further.”
The substitute teacher declined to participate in the investigation, or meet with school officials.
Allegations surfaced on the high school campus on or around May 2, according to Poteet PD.
The name of the substitute teacher will not be released, Poteet Police Chief Plutarco Castro said.
Lt. Investigator Frank Leal was dispatched to the school and met with the high school principal, along with two vice principals who informed him they were conducting an investigation of improper teacherstudent relations.
“We received the filed reports days after the alleged incident,” Castro said.
“We sent it to the Atascosa County District Attorney’s office for further investigation.”
Despite reports in a press release by the Poteet PD, the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Department is not involved in the case, according to Castro and Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward.
No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made.
Charges are expected to be filed upon the conclusion of the investigation.
