A 38-year-old man was remanded to the Atascosa County Jail last Wednesday after authorities say he allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife in front of her daughter in the Shalimar Division north of Poteet.
Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office Dispatchers received a call at 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, from a female saying her mother had been shot by her stepfather. Sheriff’s investigators and EMS responded and found the 36-year-old victim in the front yard with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to the ACSO.
The victim and her daughter had returned to her husband, Joshua Storey’s house to retrieve personal belongings.
“That’s when Storey allegedly opened the front door and used a high-powered hunting rifle to shoot the victim, killing her instantly,” Sheriff David Soward said. “The couple had been estranged for a month. The victim had called her husband to let him know she was coming by that night, so he was aware she was coming.”
Sheriff Soward explained there were no known domestic issues prior to the shooting, other than that the couple were separated.
Storey surrendered on the scene to authorities.
He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
