The latest edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine is on the shelves at local stores, signifying football season is near.

In the 2021 fall edition, DCTF has a pair of Atascosa County schools ranked in the top 25 for the preseason. Poteet takes the honor of being the highest-ranked team in the area at No. 21 in Class 3A Division I. Jourdanton is ranked 23rd in the same classification.

The Aggies are also projected to win District 14-3A DI over the Indians, who have consecutive district titles. Poteet’s 18 total returning starters is also an area-high mark.

“It just shows how hard our guys work,” Poteet Athletic Director and Head Coach Darby House said. “They’ve put in the hours.”

Poteet’s star RB Ernest Davila was named a preseason All-State selection and preseason 14-3A DI Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 2,089 yards and 20 touchdowns to lead Poteet to an 8-3 mark in 2020.

Both Pleasanton (3-8 in 2020) and Charlotte (3-4 in 2020) were picked to make the playoffs in 2021. The Eagles were picked fourth in 14-4A DI while the Trojans were picked third in 15-2A DII.
