Poteet ISD trustees approve FY 21-22 budget, tax rate



 

 

The Poteet School Board held a Public Hearing and Special Called Meeting Aug. 23 to approve the budget and tax rate for the upcoming year. Executive Director of Business and Operations, Amanda Gonzales shared a brief presentation of the budget and proposed tax rate.

The general fund or Maintenance and Operations budget, which is based on 65% state funds, is projected at $9.3 million. Food Service that is 96% federal funds is projected at $1.2 million. Debt Service, which is funded exclusively from local monies from local taxes is estimated at $2.1 million.

Tax Rate & Budget

Gonzales broke the tax rate down to M&O .976084 with debt service, Interest and Sinking, .421766 for a total rate of $1.397850, which is a negligible increase from last year, approximately $1 increase per year.

President Yvette Navarro called for a motion on the proposed budget. Rocky Wilson moved to approve the budget as presented; Jo Marie Cervantez seconded. Trustees Diego Puente, Margie O. Martinez and Albert Garza voted for the motion. Board member Ronnie Ambriz was not present.

The proposed tax rate was also approved unanimously.

Budget Amendment

A final budget amendment was passed, which closes out the fiscal year of 2021. The beginning of the year at $9.1 million and the ending balance is $9.5 million.

Teaching Permit

The district wants to hire cosmetology part time teacher for the eighth grade. She was previously head of the Coastal Bend cosmetology department and also taught at Palo Alto. A non-core academic career and technical education waiver was approved unanimously.
