Poteet fire claims woman’s life

A Poteet fire claimed the life of a woman on Thursday evening at the corner of Avenue F and 5th Street.

According to Atascosa County Fire Marshal Devin Wilborn, firefighters arrived at the home after one of the residents called 911 at around 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10 and advised that a female was inside.

Poteet PD arrived on the scene within minutes and reported a fully engulfed structure with no way to make entry, Wilborn said.

Poteet VFD, Leming VFD, Rossville VFD and Jourdanton VFD all responded to the scene. Firefighters located a woman inside the home, however it was too late.

Identification of the woman is being withheld at this time pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

This is an ongoing and active investigation. Poteet PD is lead on the case with the assistance of the Atascosa County Fire Marshal’s Office and Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office.
