February 5-7 Poteet FFA participated in the San Antonio Purebred and Crossbred Gilt show. The results are as follows:

Cutter Blagg – 10th Place Class 5 Cross Gilt; Julia Smith – 2nd Place Class 17 Cross Gilt; Arianna Hernandez – 6th Place Class 17 Cross Gilt; Julia Smith – 3rd Place Class 46 Spot Gilt; and Arianna Hernandez – 6th Place Class 75 York Gilt. Julia Smith placed high enough to be in the San Antonio Livestock sale and sold her 2nd place cross gilt.

Julia Smith, the Poteet FFA Secretary and Poteet FFA Members, Hayden McDonald, Julia McDonald and Dalton Wilson, caught a calf at the San Antonio Rodeo Calf Scramble. Each one received a certificate that was awarded to them for $1,200 to help buy next year’s stock show breeding animals.

On February 14, the Poteet FFA took 10 members to the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo Tour Guiding. Each member was in charge of an elementary class and took the kids around the grounds. The students were able to see and touch the livestock, learn how a cow was milked, tour the hall of fame, visit all the horses and learn all about the agricultural life we live. They got to see how their everyday life usually starts with agriculture; from the clothes they wear to the food they eat. The tour guides that represented the Poteet FFA were Hayley Hammons, Brady Stevens, Madison Maglievaz, Hayley Wilson, Autumn Diaz, Brooke Rasmussen, Hannah Camarillo, Brianna Garcia, Kaitlyn and Julia Smith.
