Led by their defense, Jourdanton had no trouble getting past their rival Poteet Tuesday night.

Just moments after the opening tip, the Squaws pressed early and managed to force multiple turnovers. The Squaws built up a 27-5 lead over the Aggies after one quarter. Head Coach Darrell Andrus credited his team’s defensive play throughout the season.

“They just get after defensively,” Andrus said. “They’ve done that in all 17 games so far this year. They trap well, they rotate well and then I think we played really good recovery defense, which I’m really proud of.”

The Squaws never gave up their lead and continued to play at a high level, winning 63-27. McKinley West and Emma Dorroh led all scorers with 17 and 13 points, respectively. Dorroh also contributed on the defensive side with six steals. Mallory Vickers also joined her teammates in double-figures with 11 points.

Looking to stay unbeaten in district, Jourdanton drove up to Lytle Friday. The Squaws trailed 15-10 after the first quarter but we’re unable to keep the game within reach after scoring just two points in the second quarter. The Squaws fell to Lytle 61-38 to move to 14-4 overall and 2-1 in district play.

Poteet was off Friday but continued district play Tuesday night against Lytle. Their next district matchup is next Tuesday night at Cotulla.

Jourdanton hosted Cotulla Tuesday afternoon and will head to Poth next Tuesday night.

Scores from all games will be provided in next week’s edition of the Pleasanton Express.
