Poteet alumnus Camarillo begins term as new superintendentFree Access

The Poteet ISD school board introduced Charles Camarillo as its new superintendent May 25 during its regular meeting.

Camarillo joins the district with 17 years experience as a public school administrator, 13 of which were spent as Somerville ISD superintendent. From 2001-05, he was an assistant principal for Temple ISD.

The new superintendent earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s University and a master’s from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Camarillo completed his superintendent certification from Texas A&M University.

Camarillo graduated from Poteet High School in 1987. He is returning to his hometown, where his parents and family members still reside.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be back home and to have the opportunity to lead my alma mater,” Camarillo said. “I am looking forward to interacting with the students, the staff, and the community and commit to them my time and effort to make this the best district possible.”

Camarillo’s first day on the job was Friday, June 1.
