This month there will be several opportunities to vote.
First, there are the General Election for schools and cities. Both Pleasanton and Poteet have their municipal elections this Saturday, May 5. Poteet ISD also has an election for board members.
Just around 170 people have voted early in Pleasanton for the mayoral and city councilmen elections. I guess that is a good turnout. The last Pleasanton mayoral election was held in 2001. Only 799 came out to vote … total.
It will be curious to see if there is a decent amount of voters for these elections.
I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to voter apathy, but it is real.
Why, I will be very surprised if more come out to vote in our city election than in our Chamber of Commerce Cowboy Homecoming Queen election. Around 1,000 turned out for it this year.
I challenge you to prove me wrong! If you didn’t vote early, then get out and do it on Saturday.
At least there are some folks who are wanting to vote for the Republican Primary Run-off election that is happening later this month on Tuesday, May 22. They have been trying to vote early but it isn’t time … yet. Those early voting days are May 14-18 and will be held at the Atascosa County Election office in Jourdanton.
Hopefully the confusion won’t deter these community minded voters from casting their ballots.
I remember a time when my dad ran for public office. So many thought he had the election in his favor and didn’t bother to actually go vote. He lost.
These days we can’t take it for granted that our vote doesn’t count.
It does. Yes, so does yours.
The way I see it, please, please get out and vote this Saturday if you truly want to have representation in your city and school. And if you don’t, then you have no business griping about your leaders.
And, come May 22 (or during early voting) get out and vote again in the Republican Primary Run-off election. If you voted Republican, you can vote in the run-off election, too.
