The Pleasanton Young Farmers’ Rodeo will be holding their Open Rodeo and Festival August 16- 17. This event is going to be filled with fun activities and great entertainment, and the Pleasanton Young Farmers’ will also be announcing their 2019 Cowboy of the Year.
On Friday, August 16, at 7:30 p.m. the Cowboy of the Year presentation will take place. Also to be announced are the inductees into the South Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame followed by the rodeo.
Headlining after the rodeo is Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition. This band has a passion for “real country music” and play Western Country Swing, so be sure to bring your dancing shoes! Friday, the entry fee will be $10, ages 6-12 will be $5, and children 5 and under will be free.
Saturday night, the rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m.; admission will be $15, ages 6-12 will be $5, and kids under 5 will be free. Immediately following the rodeo, John Christopher Way will be opening for headliner Kyle Park. Park is a Texas country singer/songwriter; he has had seven #1 singles on the Texas Regional Radio Report and has produced six records.
The BBQ Cookoff will be both Friday and Saturday with a 70% payback. On Friday night, the cookoff will be “Cooks Choice” and must be turned in by 7 p.m. The BBQ Cookoff on Saturday will be during the daytime and will consist of jackpot beans, brisket, pork spare ribs and chicken. On Saturday, there will also be Goat Roping behind Primo’s Feed and Supply. Kids 12 and under or ladies will cost $10 per team and Open Goat Roping will be $20 per team. The All-Around Cowgirl and Cowboy for the rodeo will be awarded silver and gold buckles.
There will be a Washer Tourney on Saturday. Sign up for the tournament will be from 10:30–11:30 a.m. and the tournament begins at 12 p.m. The rodeo will be held at the Atascosa County Show Barn Arena at 318 Showbarn Road in Pleasanton. For more info, call 830-281-5650.
