Recently, a local business received a phone call from an individual who identified himself as Peter Jones with the City of Pleasanton. He told them he was going to shut off their water if they did not pay their bill with a credit card “right now”. He was very demanding. Fortunately, the business had already paid their bill. That was when the police were notified. This is a scam.
The City of Pleasanton does not have an employee named Peter Jones and the City of Pleasanton will not call you and ask for a credit card number. Do not give anyone your credit card number over the phone. Phone scams are rampant right now. If someone calls you and tries to pressure you into giving credit card information, notify the Pleasanton Police Department at 830-569-3869.
