Pleasanton to receive $118K in COVID-19 state, federal funding

The Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) has notified the City of Pleasanton that it will receive $118,734 as part of the Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF) as outlined by the Coronavirus, Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES). Texas cities and counties may apply for up to 20% of the allotted CRF funds using a simple formula ($55 x last recorded population). CRF funds provide reimbursement to local governments for approved expenditures incurred in efforts to combat COVID-19.

The CARES act was approved by the U.S. Congress and signed into law in late April. Congressman Henry Cuellar was one of the house leaders that negotiated funding terms for local municipal government.

The city’s external affairs consulting firm, EMC Strategy Group, worked with City Manager Johnny Huizar and City Finance Director Kristi Bandy to gather all re- quired documentation to process the city’s CRF request to TDEM.

On Friday, TDEM senior leadership informed EMC Strategy Group that Pleasanton was the first city in the state to submit its request and that Pleasanton’s application would be used as a “test case” because of its thoroughness.

“I am grateful to TDEM for working swiftly to process the city’s request for state and federal funding as part of the CARES Act and the Coronavirus Relief Fund,” says Pleasanton Mayor Travis Hall. “I am also proud of our city staff and EMC Strategy Group for working aggressively to assure that the city’s application was submitted properly and timely. These funds will truly support the city’s operations and response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” adds Mayor Hall.
