After starting the season with an undefeated 6-0 run in the Brush Country Classic, the Pleasanton Lady Eagle basketball team took on a pair of 5A schools from San Antonio last week.
On Tuesday night the Lady Eagles traveled up to face the San Antonio Memorial Minutemen. The game was a close contest throughout. The Lady Eagles and Minutemen swapped the lead back and forth the entire game. Pleasanton was able to hold a 10-7 lead after the first quarter and a 20-17 lead at halftime. The Lady Eagles ended the third quarter with a 31-29 lead before Memorial outscored Pleasanton 13-7 in the fourth quarter to win 42- 38.
Mary Martinez led the Lady Eagles with nine points. Sadie McAda had eight points and Finley Hilburn scored six points for the Lady Eagles. Kiley Wiechring added five points and Diamond Brownlee contributed four points. Serina Valadez, Angel Tucker and Nika Garcia all scored two points.
On Monday the Lady Eagles opened the holiday break with an afternoon home game against the San Antonio Kennedy Rockets. It was another close game as Pleasanton battled hard with the Rockets. The lead changed hands throughout the game. Pleasanton was able to hold a 12-9 lead after one quarter and a 26-18 lead at halftime. The Rockets ignited in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Eagles 16-6 to take a 34-32 lead into the fourth quarter. The Rockets then held off the Lady Eagles for a 49-46 win.
McAda led the Lady Eagles with 19 points. Hilburn and Garcia both scored five points. Mikayla Theis and Wiechring both finished with four points. Tucker scored three points. Valadez, Martinez and Addyson Dority all scored two points.
Pleasanton played Lytle on Tuesday before taking a weeklong break for Thanksgiving. Results from that game were not available at press-time. Pleasanton will return to action next Tuesday night when they travel to Pearsall for a game scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
