Career Prep students at Pleasanton High School hosted an Employer Appreciation Luncheon to say thank you to their employers for being partners with Pleasanton High School and be training stations for students. Ms. Janie Olivarri was inspired by her experience as a past Career Prep student herself to honor the employers.
This year, around 80 people attended the luncheon at the Church of Christ in Pleasanton, catered by Meme’s Kitchen and served by Pleasanton High School culinary art students.
During the luncheon they had a slideshow and student speakers. The employers received a Certificate of Appreciation along with a custom eagle keychain with an eagle feather. The Career Prep program includes 56 students and about 33 employers.
It is aimed to teach students job skills and new technical skills. Throughout the course, the students attend school for half of the day then go to work the other half.
Ms. Olivarri goes to see the students every six weeks to evaluate them and talk to their employers. She tells her students, “Remember, even though this won’t be your lifelong job, always do a great job so that your employers now can be resources for you in the future.”
