PLEASANTON HIGH SCHOOL CLASS HOLDS MOCK TRIAL



 

 

On Friday, Nov. 8, the Pleasanton High School Principals of Law class held a mock trial at Pleasanton Municipal Court. Each student played a vital role in the trial with roles of the judge, prosecution, defense, defendant, jury, police officers, witnesses, bailiffs and family. Also present were Municipal Court Judge Sheila Garza, City Prosecutor Roberto (Bobby) Maldonado and Court Clerks Rosalia Sosa and Shayla Hopes.The case was centered around defendant Kiias Martinez, who was initially pulled over for his taillight being out. After two officers offered to help him fix it, they noticed some black fluid leaking out of the spare tire in his trunk. They were given permission by Martinez to conduct a search of the tire to which they found 47.2 pounds of marijuana stuffed in the hallowed-out tire. He was immediately arrested for alleged drug trafficking. The mock jury found him guilty. You can watch their mock trial on the City of Pleasanton website at pleasantontx.iqm2.com/ Citizens/.
