Students from Pleasanton High School attended the 2019 Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference in Dallas, March 6-9.
Pleasanton High School chapter members joined over 2,800 other conference delegates from across the state to participate in state level business skill competitions, general sessions, and the state officer candidate campaigns and elections.
Qualifying for Nationals were: Dylan Acuff, Shelby Henson, Mackenzie Pilgrim and Justin Rangel – Small Business Management Team – 1st Place; Mackenzie Pilgrim – Presentation Management Individual – 3rd Place; Madeleine Guajardo – Fundamentals of Desktop Publishing – 5th Place; Ann Levchyk – Business Law and Ethics – 5th Place.
National Alternates were: Lauren Dowdy, Paige Hubert, Delanee Olivarri – 4th Place – Global Marketing Team; Nathaniel Gonzales, Jordan Haby, Thomas Huizar, Andres Torres – 4th Place – Broadcast News Production.
Other highlights of the conference:
•Alaina Dickson, Madeleine Guajardo, and Delanee Olivarri earned the Statesman Torch Award recognizing their service to their school, community, and personal development.
•Delanee Olivarri earned the Statesman of the Year Award for Region 2 for having the most Torch Award points in the San Antonio Area.
•Delanee Olivarri served her final official duty as out-going President of Area 2, Region 2 for the Texas Association of BPA by helping to run the State Leadership Conference with the State Officer Team.
•Delanee Olivarri ran for a State Officer position with her campaign, The LANE to Success. She was elected by the Texas delegation as the State Parliamentarian for the Texas Association of Business Professionals of America. She will represent BPA on the State Officer Team from March 2019 through March 2020.
Individual competitors not placing at the State Conference were: Madelyn Bird – Medical Office Procedures; Alaina Dickson – Database Applications; Avery Falcon – Advanced Interview Skills, Delanee Olivarri – Graphic Design Promotion, and Jenna Westfall – Interview Skills.
Team competitors not placing at the State Conference were: Avery Falcon, Kinsley Moore, Robert Rutherford – Economic Research Team; Brandi Barnett, Adyson Brymer, Ashlyn Vera – Presentation Management Team.
