Pleasanton BPA qualifies 5 for Nationals

Students from Pleasanton High School attended the 2020 Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Leadership Conference in Dallas on March 4-7.

Pleasanton High School chapter members joined over 3,500 other conference delegates from across the state to participate in state level business skill competitions, general sessions and the state officer candidate campaigns and elections.

Qualifying for Nationals in a team event were: Lauren Dowdy, Paige Hubert, Delanee Olivarri and Robert Rutherford who placed 1st in Global Marketing Team. Qualifying in an individual event was Mackenzie Pilgrim who placed 1st in Advanced Interview Skills.

“I am so proud of our team,” said Delanee Olivarri. “We have worked so hard since freshman year to get that coveted first place finish at State to qualify for Nationals.”

“And we finally did it!” added Paige Hubert.

Other highlights of the conference:

•Lauren Dowdy, Paige Hubert, Delanee Olivarri and Mackenzie Pilgrim received the Statesman Torch Award recognizing their service to their school, community and personal development.

•Delanee Olivarri was named the Statesman of the Year for Texas by having accumulated the most Torch Award points in the State of Texas.

Mackenzie Pilgrim was the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship and Delanee Olivarri was the recipient of a $500 scholarship given by the Texas Association of BPA.

•Delanee led the State Leadership Conference as a State Officer for the Texas Association of BPA. In this capacity, she led the Special Recognition Awards, the Opening Ceremony, Officer Elections and Campaign Rally, the Special Event and the Awards Ceremony. The State Leadership Conference was her final duty in her yearlong term as Parliamentarian for the Texas Association of BPA.

•Isaac Garcia completed his 1-year term as Area 2 Region 2 President. He was instrumental in assisting the State Officer Team with ceremonies and events at SLC.

Other members competing at the State Conference were: Isaac Garcia, 9th place – Prepared Speech; Nathaniel Gonzales, Jordan Haby, Thomas Huizar, Andres Torres, 5th place – Broadcast News Production; Brandi Barnett, Adyson Brymer, Lauren Trapp, Ashlyn Vera – Presentation Management Team, Kory Caballero – Computer Modeling; Alexis Ramos – Fundamental Word Processing; Alizay Rodriguez – Medical Office Procedures.
