Four Pleasanton High School students, along with advisor Janie Olivarri, attended the National Leadership Conference (NLC) of Business Professionals of America (BPA) in Dallas May 9-13. Over 6,000 conference delegates participated in this year’s conference.
The Economic Research Team, made up of Matthew Elmer, Avery Falcon, and Kinsley Moore competed with their project on Agricultural Subsidies. They presented the pros and cons of various subsidies used in America and made recommendations on how to fix the program. Although the team did not place, they learned valuable skills, in collaboration, meeting deadlines, and working under pressure.
“I am glad I got the chance to compete at Nationals before I graduated. I am so proud of the work we did,” said Elmer.
Delanee Olivarri served on the State Officer team as a Regional President. She was instrumental in helping to run the National Conference since the conference was hosted in Dallas this year.
“Being a part of an organization that brings the nation together in friendly competition has been a humbling experience,” said Olivarri. “I am truly inspired by all the people I had the opportunity to meet in Dallas,” she added.
While in Dallas, the Pleasanton group visited the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, the 6th Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, and Six Flags over Texas. Pleasanton High School was proud to be a part of NLC in Dallas where everyone was encouraged to Dream Bigger!
