During the City Manager’s Report at the April 5 Pleasanton City Council meeting, Public Works Director Johnny Martinez explained that for the last two weeks, employees with the wastewater plant, the water department, the street and park departments have been working at the River Park playscape area.

“They went out of their way to have the play area repaired and safe for children to play. They removed the temporary fencing that we had around the area and it is now ready,” said Martinez.

City Manager Pearson said the city employees were to be congratulated for the intense effort required at the park.

“I might also mention some of the out-of-the-box thinking that our guys exhibited and the innovative things that they brought to it, to get that thing back in order,” said Pearson.

Seal-coat approved for park

At the April 5 meeting of the Pleasanton City Council, unanimous approval was given to choose seal-coating as the paving technique for the road in the Atascosa River Park. The total amount is $23,092.50.

The other option presented was to use hot mix, with a total of about $73,000. City Engineer John Metting told council it could be done in four-five days. So far, $55,000 has already been spent on base, labor and fuel.

Powell asked, cost aside, what is the better product. Metting said his opinion was seal-coat. If it rains, there is a good chance the road will get picked up and washed away. If it needs replacing, it can be replaced four times for the price of one time with hot mix.

Sewer Project

Members of the council voted unanimously to approve Fuquay for the White Street Sewer Project, in the amount of $302,000.

City Engineer John Metting explained the city was ready to begin the project. Mr. Fuquay and some of his assistants have been working with the city and helped Metting determine what the best technologies would be for the job. The first phase will not involve the Texas Department of Transportation. It will be city streets, right up to Smith at 97 in front of H-E-B. When phase one is comlete and ordering the linears is complete, he will complete the plans. Right now, phase two is only an estimate.
