St. Matthew Catholic Church in Jourdanton will hold its annual picnic this Sunday, September 28. Fr. Kazimierz Oleksy and the parishioners of St. Matthew’s invite you to begin the celebration with us by joining us for Sunday Mass at 10:30 a.m.
Festivities continue with a hearty barbecue beef and sausage meal being served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parish hall. Cost is $8.00 per plate. Besides ample portions of the beef and sausage, the meal is served with pinto beans, potato salad, cole slaw, dessert, and tea. Before getting your meal, though, you better make your way to the always popular kolache booth for homemade kolaches. We sell out quickly! Besides kolaches, you can find some other great homemade baked goods there.
Prize bingo games will be played in the afternoon beginning at 12:30 at the covered pavilion adjacent to the hall until about 4:30. If you’re looking to buy some quality items for yourself or get a jumpstart on your Christmas shopping, you can enjoy the action of a best bid auction inside the air-conditioned hall beginning at 12:30 p.m. Another place to find some “treasures” is our thrift store/country store which will be opened throughout the day.
To keep the kids entertained, we have increased the number and quality of games available to provide fun for kids ranging from toddlers to teenagers. For the younger kids, Inflatable Wonderland™ is providing some great inflatable games such as the Extreme Rush Obstacle Course, Monster Wheels Bounce, Disney Fairy Moonwalk, a 20-ft. Green Slide, Bungee Run, Ahoy Matey Pirate Ship, and Yo-Gabba-Gabba Combo. Additionally, there will be pumpkin painting and “Cowboy Gus” (aka Mr. Donald Blythe) will entertain kids with magic, card tricks, juggling, and balloon artistry.
There will also be some classic carnival games such as the Ball Bounce, Milk Jugs, Balloon Dart Game, Bottle Rings, Spill the Milk, Frog Hop, and First & Ten. “Kid food” favorites like pickles and snow cones will be available to “refuel” kids for more fun and games throughout the afternoon!
For the older kids, Inflatable Wonderland™ is providing a dunking booth. Rumor has it that there may be some real “dunkable” dunkees: teachers, coaches, JHS athletes, and local business people. Even the Mayor of Jourdanton is rumored to have volunteered! There will also be a photo booth with accessories for kids to add a little pizzazz before a fun picture is snapped. The picture – and the treasured memory – is theirs to keep!
Topping off the day will be the super prize raffle. Thirty-one prizes worth a combined total of over $15,000 will be given away! Top five prizes are a $3,000 VISA gift card, a John Deere mower, a “Circle of Support” diamond necklace, a Beretta Over & Under 12-gauge shotgun, and an iPad Mini 32gb with retina display.
Skip the Sunday cooking, and come on over to St. Matthew’s for great food, fun, and fellowship!!
