Pleasanton High School Army JROTC Senior Army Instructor Col. Chris Wynder (Retired) is proud to announce that the PHS JROTC Eagle Battalion earned the Honor Unit with Distinction Designation on Feb. 5 with a score of 96.9 out of 100.

The Honor Unit with Distinction (HUD) is set aside for JROTC programs that have demonstrated exceptional performance in all areas of program operation.

“We are extremely proud of our cadets who participated in the event, as well as the other cadets in the battalion who share in this accomplishment,” said Wynder. “CSM Nuells and I look forward to the next inspection in 2024 when our current first year cadets will be seniors and ready to keep a tradition of excellence alive.”

There are significant benefits when a school receives an HUD status:

•All cadets in the battalion will be authorized to wear a gold star above their name tag for the next three years and enjoy the sense of pride and the building of a positive reputation in the community.

•The designation can be used on ROTC Scholarship applications and HUD Unit Senior Army Instructors can prepare nomination letters to all Armed Services Academies. This is equivalent to a recommendation from a senator or congressman.

•Any student from a high school that has an HUD JROTC program can include this on their resume for employment.

Wynder appreciates all the support received from PISD and PHS. Special thanks to Dr. Mann, Mrs. Guajardo, Mrs. Shearrer, Mrs. Lozano, Mrs. Higginbotham, Ms. Arredondo and Mrs. Rutherford for the support provided to assist them with the event. The help and flexibility required was greatly appreciated.
