The Pearsall football team ran for 341 yards in beating Poteet in their district opener Friday night at Aggie Field.
The Mavericks blanked the Aggies 35-0 to start District 14-4A Division II play.
Pearsall’s Oscar Cubriel had a game-high 157 rushing yards and three TDs on 18 carries. Teammate Nathaniel Gandara added 11 rushes for 75 yards.
Cubriel broke through for the first score of the game, a 25-yard run with 3:59 in the first quarter. The Mavericks (6-0, 1-0 district) led 14-0 at halftime following a 30-yard fumble recovery for a TD by Mark Hernandez late in the opening period.
Javier Martinez also had a TD run for Pearsall, running for 62 yards.
Poteet managed 104 yards of offense. Senior Anthony Ambriz led the team with 38 yards on 18 carries. Quarterback Daryn Garza went 4-for-20 passing for 31 yards. Garza added four rushes for 18 yards.
Sonny Orozco was Poteet’s leading receiver with two catches for 16 yards.
Eric Treviño had an interception for the Aggies, who finished with one turnover as well.
Poteet (2-4, 0-1) will travel to Crystal City on Friday for its next contest. The Javelinas (5-1, 1-0) opened district play with a 39-13 win over Carrizo Springs on the road last week.
