Patrick Carmack

Patrick Shannon Carmack was born June 21, 1970 and passed away January 23, 2018.

Patrick died of a heart attack at his home late Tuesday evening. He was deeply loved by his wife of 28 years, Lisa (Ray) Carmack, and his two amazing daughters Meagan (19) and Abigail (12) of Conway, Arkansas. He is survived by his mother, Janice Evans, and his four older siblings: Mike Carmack, Leah Good, Sherry Carmack, Brian Carmack, and many extended family members and lifelong friends.

Patrick earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from Southern Methodist University in 2004 and was a member of the mathematics faculty at the University of Central Arkansas at the time of his death. He was an inspiration to many students throughout his twenty-four years as an educator, and he used his knowledge in biostatistics to develop spatial modeling techniques to better interpret data from MRI scans of Gulf War veterans.

Patrick was a 1988 honor graduate of Pleasanton High School where he was a photographer for the yearbook and a rebel nerd. During his 47 years on this planet, Patrick was a huge fan of J.R.R. Tolkien and Gene Roddenberry, and he appreciated cigars, good music, really good scotch, and even better friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the American Statistical Association (www.amstat.org/ASA/Giving/Ways-to-Give.aspx) or to a local organization that provides support to international students. Checks for International Friendship Outreach may be sent c/o Ken Hoekman, 1717 Kasey Ct., Sherwood, AR ,72120.
