Parks and Rec 2.0

Nope, this isn’t a redux of the popular TV series, but it will be just as highly anticipated.

The Pleasanton River Park will be undergoing a major face lift and you can be there to see the ground breaking this Friday, June 8 at 7 p.m.

I urge you to attend this event and support the efforts the city has been busy planning. This will be a huge benefit for our whole town to have a lovely park to enjoy.

The upgrades will happen in phases – with the first phase including construction of a splash pad and skate park.

I’m not sure about other parents, but I would have been so happy if I could have taken my kids to our park and a cool, refreshing water feature would have been there. And to have a designated place for skaters? How great is that?

Also planned are more pavilions, more parking, an amphitheater, open play fields for soccer, football, baseball, basketball court, walking trails,  a new playground,  new bathrooms and more.

After the ground breaking, the Atascosa Family Crisis Center is sponsoring, along with the city, a free movie. Snacks and activities will be available prior to the showing shortly after sundown (about 8:30 p.m. or so). So stay (or show up around 7:30 p.m.), bring your chair and snacks – no alcohol is allowed – and settle in to watch this week’s feature “Moms’ Night Out”.

Greg Leach, City of Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Facilities Director and Tony Aguirre, Parks  and Recreation Facilities Coordinator  have been busy scheduling events to span over the 12 weeks of summer.

One of those events is this week. Be sure to take your kids to the Pleasanton Student Council sponsored Leadership and Game day at the Pleasanton Civic Center on Thursday at 10 a.m.

The way I see it, take time to support this milestone event and then stay for the movie – it’s fun and it’s free.
