Parade was a success thanks to all

On behalf of the Parade committee, I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone that attended the Annual Strawberry Festival Parade on Saturday April 13th, 2013. We had a rare occurrence that morning, as we did not get one sprinkling of rain. The weather was gorgeous and this year it didn’t “rain on our parade” not even a threat of mist or drizzle as often occurs on an April morning.

I would also like to thank all the parade entries that participated and made our hometown parade more beautiful than ever! We try hard as a committee to work with everyone and ensure that all entries get a spot, however, this to can be a challenge. This is our second year going paperless and we are working on refining this process. I would like to recognize three exceptional local entries: Rosemary’s Main Trends Salon, Irma’s Taco’s and Brown’s OK Corral. These three local businesses went above and beyond to make beautiful and entertaining entries in our parade. Rosemary and Willie Mendez, owners of Rosemary’s Main Trends, entered a beautiful float that was a bright purple splendor! Their hard work showed as did their pride in their community. Irma Rodriguez, owner of Irma’s Tacos, put together a fun and chilling rendition of “Walking Dead” that wowed the audience and entertained everyone. Brown’s OK Corral presented a stunning western saloon scene complete with dapper cowboys and feisty Ms. Kitty type saloon girls that the spectators seemed to really enjoy. These three local businesses deserve recognition for their hard work, effort and care that they put into their entries. To me, they were the “Best in the Show”.

We were blessed with nice weather, excellent volunteers and beautiful parade entries that created a “harmonic convergence” we rarely achieve with the parade. Thank you to all the volunteers, the PSFA staff, the Poteet Police and Sheriff’s Deputies, The City of Poteet employees, the Poteet ISD, the participating entries and especially the spectators. Somehow every year we put on a parade and it works out pretty well but this year was very special. I hope we can make it work like that again next year!

Sincerely,
Ed & Irene Ramos
Parade Co-Chairs
