Two local powerlifters are headed to the state meet after winning their respective regional championships Saturday.
Pleasanton’s Oscar Castillo won the Super Heavyweight class, and Poteet’s Brandon Fernandez took first place at 114 pounds at the meet in Bishop.
Castillo lifted a total of 1,675 pounds: 680 on squat, 445 on bench and 550 on deadlift.
Fernandez finished with 845 pounds total: 335 on squat, 185 on bench and 325 on deadlift.
Both will compete at the state championships in Abilene on March 24.
Also competing at the regional meet were Jourdanton’s Garrett McDonald and Michael Gomez of Poteet.
McDonald placed fifth in the 148-pound class with a total of 1,145: 500 on squat, 245 on bench and 400 on deadlift.
Gomez was 10th in the 198 class, lifting 1,200 pounds (480 on squat, 270 on bench and 450 on deadlift).
