Atascosa Running Club meets on Wednesdays
Runners are invited to take part in the Atascosa Running Club Social Fun Run every Wednesday. They meet at 7 p.m. and run at 7:10 p.m. and are scheduled to meet again on July 10.
They will meet at “The Office Bar and Grill,” run to the Pleasanton River Park, around town and back to The Office. They will be running three to four miles. No one is left behind. They will run at a slow pace. All ages and abilities are welcome to join!
The Office Bar and Grill is located at 205 East Hunt St. in Pleasanton.
Senior Days continue Mondays at Civic Center
Local senior citizens (50 or older) are invited to the weekly Senior Days at the Pleasanton Civic Center on Mondays. Events begin at 10 a.m. and are free. Come join the fun!

The City of Pleasanton is continuing their free, one day per week, eight-week summer program for kids. The last session will be Tuesday, July 23, at 10 a.m. with Ultimate Frisbee at the River Park soccer field.

Census Community Meeting
The City of Pleasanton will hold its third 2020 Census Community Meeting on July 18, at 10 a.m., at the Pleasanton Civic Center.
Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce members, representatives of civic organizations, business community, nonprofit organizations, and faithbased organizations are all encouraged to attend.
The city is seeking support from every segment of the community to ensure that all efforts are made to create awareness for a successful Census count.
The city’s CCC will meet every other month in person and hold conference calls in between to organize all Census promotion initiatives.

Pleasanton to host Business Ethics Workshop
The City of Pleasanton will hold a Business Ethics Workshop on July 18, at 11 a.m., at the Pleasanton Civic Center. July’s workshop will feature a presentation by the city’s Business and Economic Development Consultant and Owner and Founder of EMC Strategy Group, LLC.
This workshop is open to any business, nonprofit, and organization seeking ethics training. Workshop topics will include organizational rules, state and federal compliance, liability concerns, ethics in action, and accountability.

Yesteryear Festival at Longhorn Museum July 20
Leave all those electronic devices and modern conveniences this Saturday and step back in time to see how your ancestors lived back in the “good old days!
The Longhorn Museum will celebrate its annual Yesteryear Festival July 20 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Admission is free and there will be plenty of exhibits, games, free refreshments and loads of fun as we step back in time.
Outside exhibits include branding boards, a petting zoo, wash tub laundry, the old caboose, a Pleasanton fire truck to explore, and lots more. Eric Morrell, in costume, will demonstrate how frontiersmen lived long ago.
Inside, Richard Dobie will demonstrate Indian arrowhead chipping. You will learn how folks quilted, wove, churned butter, and made dolls out of handkerchiefs, for example. There will also be games for the children and storytelling.
Around 11 a.m. the Ballet Folklorico will perform their dances inside in their colorful costumes. Also performing will be Ms. Tera’s Tap ‘N Toes dance group and the PHS Cheerleaders. There will be some new exhibits and surprises this year – so make plans now to come by. There will be lots to do. See you there!

The Atascosa County Amateur Radio Club meets at noon the third Saturday of each month at the Old Leming School Building on Highway 281.
3rd Annual Water Gun Wars on July 20
Atascosa County youth ages 12 and under are invited to come beat the heat at the 3rd Annual Water Gun Wars at the Pleasanton River Park, Saturday, July 20.
The new splash pad will serve as the perfect spot for the event, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Czech Heritage to be celebrated at St. Matthew’s
The sauerkraut is almost ready, kolaches are being baked, and the Markmann Polkateers are gearing up to play lots of Polka music while visitors enjoy a fabulous Czech meal. That could only mean one thing: Czech Day! Yes, indeed, St. Matthew Catholic Church in Jourdanton will hold its annual Czech Day Celebration on Sunday, July 21, at the church and parish hall.
The celebration begins with Mass at 11 a.m. St. Matthew’s pastor, Fr. Kazimierz Oleksy, will be the celebrant for the Mass.
After Mass, an authentic Czech meal – including sausage, Czech potatoes, homemade sauerkraut (homemade by St. Matthew’s parishioners), green beans, peaches, dessert, and tea – will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or so). The cost is $10 per plate.
Czech music will be played throughout the meal by the Markmann Polkateers. Before you sit down to enjoy the tasty meal and wonderful music, be sure to pick up your delicious kolaches which will be sold by the local Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas (The KJZT) – St. Rosalie Society #75. Also, homemade “ready to eat” sauerkraut will be sold after the meal has been served.
Finally, a raffle sponsored by the local Catholic Union of Texas (The KJT) – St. Jerome Society #87 will be held. Top prize is a $500 Visa gift card! Other prizes include a $200 Visa gift card, a Mother Theresa Quote Framed Cross- Stitch, a $100 Visa gift card, two $100 Walmart gift cards, a $100 HEB gift card, a $50 Walmart gift card, a $40 HEB gift card, and a Fredericksburg Farm Variety Gift Basket.

A fundraiser for Ermenia Coronado of Poteet (liver transplant recipient) and Dayna Tate of Jourdanton (living donor) has been set for this Sunday, July 21. The benefit will start at 10 a.m. at Pop Da Topz, 8710 N. State Highway 16 in Poteet.
Plates will include chicken leg quarter, link sausage, beans, potato salad, bread and jalapeno per request. There will also be drinks and dessert for $1 each.

BCRW to meet July 25
The July meeting of the Brush Country Republican Women (BCRW) will be held on Thursday, July 25 at 7 p.m. at the Rotary building on the Strawberry Festival grounds in Poteet.
There will be a social time at 6:30 with light refreshments and the program will begin at 7 p.m. Jim Gibson from Floresville will give a presentation on the mission and operations of the Texas Border Volunteers (TBV) and what they see happening along the border. Lightning Fast Car Show
Due to rain, the 2nd Annual Lightning Fast Car Show originally scheduled for June has been rescheduled for Friday, July 26. Price Chevrolet and Lightning Fast Car Wash are hosting the event, from 6-8 p.m.

First Seventhday Adventist Church VBS
It is Vacation Bible School time and we invite you to attend “Jesus is King of Kings” at the Atascosa First Seventhday Adventist Church. It is located at 1093 Farm RD 476 E off of Avenue H and 11th Street in Poteet.
Time will be 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 28- Aug. 1.
All children ages 3-12 are invited to come and learn how as children of God, we are chosen to be heirs of the King. Parents are welcome to stay and participate with their children. Every day they will learn a Bible story about a person chosen to be a King or Queen to help and to save God’s people. Each day will also include crafts, games, singing, and snack time.

First Baptist Church in Poteet invites all children, Pre-K thru 6th grade, to attend an exciting “Super Hero Week,” July 29- Aug. 1.
The children will enjoy dressing up as their favorite Super Heroes and learn about Jesus Christ, a real life Super Hero. The Vacation Bible School will start at 10 a.m. from Monday thru Thursday and conclude at 1 p.m. each day. Lunch will be served to the children each day. There will be no morning class on Friday but the children will have a chance to show their families what they have learned at a special Family Night that will begin at 6 p.m.

Wyatt Fundraiser Aug. 3
In May, 5-year-old Wyatt was diagnosed with an aggressive, rare, inoperable and incurable brain tumor.
A fundraiser to help the Rodart family with medical costs, clinial trials and to help ease any financial stress is set for Saturday, Aug. 3. The event will take place at St. Mary’s Church in Somerset, 4 p.m. to midnight. Come join the fun!
Tickets include chicken, sausage dinner, potato salad, beans and trimmings. You can BYOB. There will be dinner, dancing to the music of The South Texas Rainmakers, a live auction and silent auction.

Kids Crusade 2019 is coming up on Aug. 9 and 10, at Christ The Rock Church, 8986 US Hwy. 281 in Leming. The event will feature Children’s Pastor Mike Muzzeral.
