Atascosa Running Club meets every Wednesday
Join fellow runners in the Atascosa Running Club Social Fun Run every Wednesday. The next event is set for May 15.
They meet at 6:10 p.m. at “The Office Bar and Grill,” run to the Pleasanton River Park, around town and back to The Office. They will be running three to four miles. No one is left behind. They will run at a slow pace. All ages and abilities are welcome to join!
Stay afterwards for refreshments and get to know each other. Follow the group on Facebook at Atascosa Running Club.
The Office Bar and Grill is located at 205 East Hunt St. in Pleasanton.
Jourdanton VFD BBQ Cook-Off on May 17-18
On Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18, the public is invited to attend the 29th Annual Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department BBQ Cook-Off. This year’s event has moved to the Jourdanton City Park and will feature a washer tournament, Kids Que, IBCA BBQ Cook Off, tours by Methodist AirCare, Ballet Folklorico dancers and more.
The event is free to come check out. However, there is a $10 cover charge for the Saturday night dance. Those 12 and under are free.
Saturday’s schedule includes the washer tournament starting at 3:30 p.m. There is a $20 per person entry fee for the tourney. All points count, double elimination. Prizes for 1st-3rd place. Registration will begin at noon under the pavilion.
The live auction will follow at 5:30 p.m. The Ballet Folklorico Dancers of Poteet are scheduled to perform from 4-5 p.m. Methodist AirCare tours will be held from 2-4 p.m.
The Saturday night dance will feature the Allen Torans and Misty Blue Band with special guest Clifford Lyssy at 8 p.m. They will perform their awesome country dance music, mixed with some classic rock and roll.
Come out and support your local fire department. The entire event is a BYOB event. There will be sodas and water available for purchase at the event, as local youth groups will be selling concession stand items to raise funds.
Friday night will be the Cook’s Choice. Entry fee is $25 and a 50/50 split for first place will be awarded. Turn in times are 7:30 p.m. for meat, 8 p.m. for dessert and 8:30 p.m. for margaritas.
On Saturday, turn in time is 4:30 p.m. for the KidsQue Nation and entry fee is $25.
For the IBC Sanctioned BBQ Cook-Off, turn in times are: 12 noon for chicken, 1:30 p.m. for pork spare ribs and 3 p.m. for brisket. The meat entry fee is $175 for one or all meats. BBQ $3,000 guaranteed pay back.
Also on Saturday is the Jackpot Pinto Beans competition, with an entry fee of $25. Turn in is at 11 a.m.

Jourdanton Farmers Market on May 18
The next Jourdanton Farmers Market is scheduled for this Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is held each Saturday at 1103 Champion Dr. in Jourdanton, at the swimming pool parking lot.

Pleasanton Green Up
Join Karnes Electric and Boy Scout Troop 194 in planting trees at the newly renovated Atascosa River Park in Pleasanton on Saturday, May 18. The Pleasanton Green Up event will start at 8 a.m. and is made possible through the City of Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with Karnes Electric Cooperative.
Free food and drinks will follow at 12 p.m.
BCRW to meet May 23
The May meeting of the Brush Country Republican Women (BCRW) will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 7 p.m. at the Rotary building on the Strawberry Festival grounds in Poteet. There will be a social time at 6:30 with light refreshments and the program will begin at 7.
Gail Johnson will be giving a presentation about an organization named Better Angels for De-polarization and will be talking about the techniques they use to help people of differing political persuasions engage in meaningful conversations.
The goal of Better- Angels.org is to educate, engage and provoke thoughtful discussion among people of every political persuasion and ideology, discovering our perceived stereotypes. Gail is a former officer of BCRW, a former Atascosa County Republican Party precinct chairwoman and a delegate to the State Republican Party Convention. The public is invited to attend. Free Pleasanton Pickleball event on May 25
Bring your family, friends, neighbors and tennis shoes to become a part of a fun activity sweeping the nation.
On Saturday, May 25, The Navigators will host the Pleasanton Pickleball event from 4-7 p.m. at the Pleasanton Country Club. The event is free and equipment will be furnished.
